This past summer I taught a graduate seminar course at McMaster University titled Architectures of Digital Ecosystems as part of their Master of Public Policy Program. It provided an excellent opportunity to explore and provide an overview of the current evolution of digital platforms and worlds.
Dark patterns is a phrase used to describe design principles that attempt to influence or shift your behaviour in a specific and desired direction.
It can also be referred to as organizational metacognition, or knowing what an organization knows and how it acquires that knowledge (learning). If the medium is the message, then knowledge, by it’s function, transforms. As we learn, we change, as new knowledge potentially impacts everything we do.
